Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) contain basic material safety information, such as physical, chemical, and toxicological properties, regulatory data, and handling recommendations.

HP offers SDS for the batteries used in HP products and for HP Original printing supplies.

There is no requirement or need for a "current SDS" as defined by a calendar year. The SDS is issued when a product is created and released. As long as the product and its constituents remain unchanged, the SDS remains valid.

HP understands customer/carrier concerns with annual changes in the dangerous goods regulations. There have been significant changes in requirements regarding how certain products are packaged, labeled, and documented, however, that information is not related to the product’s physical characteristics, as described in the SDS.

As an example, the physical battery requirements to ship an HP lithium-ion battery, exempted from Class 9 dangerous goods requirements, have not changed. The battery must:

  • meet the UN38.3 tests criteria
  • weigh less than 5kg
  • have 100 watt-hours (Wh) energy capacity or less
  • Wh rating must be stamped on battery casing.
