BIS Certificates
Q: What are BIS certificates and where can I find them? A: A BIS certificate is a compliance document meant for the Indian Market issued by Bureau of Indian Standards. BIS grants license to the manufacturers to import and apply Standard Mark with unique R-number per Product Category/Factory/Regulatory Model Number, through registration based on self-declaration of conformity for goods and articles as per Indian Standards. The grant of license and its operation under Compulsory Registration Scheme are carried out as per the conformity assessment scheme under Scheme - II of Schedule - II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018'. BIS certificates are both Regulatory Model Number (RMN) and BIS Registration number (R-41121096 - for example) based. The RMN of a product is displayed only on the original BIS certificate for the specific product/s. Subsequent renewals of the certificate renew the BIS registration which is tied with a manufacturer. Therefore, there could be many different products being produced by one manufacturer under the same BIS registration. For perspective there are products that have different BIS certificates under different registrations because they are produced in more than one place. Refer to the example BIS certificate below. In vertical order from top to bottom on the marked image below are: 1. BIS registration Number 2. Factory 3. Validity date 4. RMN BIS certificates often are available on the official HP regulatory website http://www.hp.eu/certificates. Alternatively, if you need a BIS for a specific product, you may reach out to us (techregshelp@hp.com) by writing an e-mail with subject line addressing the nature of your request (BIS certificates in this case). One request should not have more than 10 unique products. And you should try to provide product identification information such as Product and/or Serial Numbers and product name descriptions (Marketing Model Names (MMN for short)). Additionally, please note that supporting products for host units (Notebooks for example) such as Power Adapters, Power Cords and Batteries have their separate BIS certificates. A list of products in scope for India BIS can be viewed on the following link to the Web page of Bureau of Indian Standards.
